Trade Mission: Join the Law Society for an Understanding of Malaysian Market

REGISTER FOR REGULAR UPDATES

The Law Society is seeking expressions of interest from small to medium-sized firms considering expanding their businesses into Malaysia. The Law Society of England and Wales, in co-operation with the Malaysian Bar Council, will lead a business development mission to Kuala Lumpur in the summer of 2019. The mission will be an opportunity for UK law firms to gain a better understanding of the Malaysian market and an insight into the opportunities available.

The two-day programme in Kuala Lumpur will feature meetings with Malaysian law firms and businesses, and a joint event with the Malaysian Bar Council to help you promote your business. The Law Society is looking for small to medium-sized UK law firms from a range of sectors that wish to be introduced to similarly sized firms in Malaysia.

Why Malaysia?

Malaysia is at the dawn of a new beginning. In May 2018, Malaysia underwent its first change in government in 61 years after a closely fought general election. In addition, the Malaysian economy has undergone a transformation in recent decades, moving away from specialisation in raw material production and towards a multi-sector approach.

It has enjoyed higher than expected growth over 2017 and 2018 – many economists suggest that it is close to achieving high-income status. In addition, Malaysia is inching closer to regaining its lead over Singapore’s economy, with the differences in GDP set to shrink to just $2bn in 2018.

As a global trading nation, Malaysia is the UK’s second-largest trading partner in ASEAN. The UK and Malaysia benefit from a strong, historic relationship.

Register your interest

If you are interested in joining the mission, please register your interest and your preferred month/s of travel (June-September) with Catherine Brims at asia@lawsociety.org.uk. The exact dates of travel are dependent on interest from member firms.
